Technical overview, not a certified composition or mechanical-property report. Confirm grade designation, product standard, required condition and heat-lot documentation for every order.

Why Material Grade and Condition Matter

Selecting by a broad ‘tool steel’ label is not sufficient for a mechanical specification. Representative components include cutting tools, dies, punches, gauges and precision wear parts. Different grades can share a broad alloy family while requiring distinct finishing, inspection or material qualification. Procurement and engineering should agree on the supplied condition and part performance before accepting substitutions.

Precision Bar Supply and Processing

Mozaic Precision Metals offers project-specific centerless grinding, bar straightening, polishing, saw cutting, chamfering and packaging. Our quoting process considers material condition, diameter, length and the required final surface. Diameter tolerance, straightness and roughness should be specified and inspected separately.

What to Include in Your RFQ

Send the alloy or grade, appropriate standard/revision, raw stock size, target finished OD, length, quantity, specified heat-treated or drawn condition, straightness, finish and certificates. Request a quote online, email sales@mozaicprecision.com or call 847-637-8379.

Include the exact grade required, such as A2, D2, O1, S7, H13, or M2, rather than specifying “tool steel” alone. Availability is reviewed for the requested size and condition.

State whether you need annealed stock for machining or material in a defined hardened condition. Include any hardness limits, material standards, and certification requirements.

Surface condition also matters. Specify whether you require as-supplied stock, decarb-free material, or a precision ground diameter, and provide the applicable dimensional allowance.

Ground Diameters & Cut-to-Length Blanks

For round tooling blanks and wear components, centerless grinding can prepare the outside diameter to specified dimensions. Saw cutting prepares individual lengths for subsequent machining.

Provide the finished diameter, tolerance, surface finish, and cut-length requirements. If ends will be faced afterward, include the necessary machining allowance.

Plan Processing Around Heat Treatment

Tell us when heat treatment occurs in your manufacturing sequence. Dimensions can change during hardening, so stock intended for machining before heat treatment may need different allowances from material requiring final grinding afterward.

For hardened stock, include the grade, current hardness, incoming dimensions, and remaining finishing allowance so the grinding requirements can be assessed.

Request a Tool Steel Bar Quote

Send your grade, material specification, supplied condition, diameter, length, quantity, and delivery requirements. Include any decarb-free surface requirements, grinding tolerances, hardness limits, or documentation needs.
