Mozaic Precision Metals supplies precision ground round bar stock and processes customer-supplied metal bars at our Schaumburg, Illinois facility. Our capabilities include centerless outside-diameter grinding, straightening, polishing, cutting, chamfering and protective packaging. We review each job by grade, heat-treatment condition, starting size, finished tolerance, length and quantity.
Centerless grinding works on the outside of suitable cylindrical material. The grinding wheel removes material from the outside diameter while a regulating wheel and work support control part rotation and movement. It is not internal tube grinding. Thru-Feed, In-Feed and Long-Bar Centerless Grinding
Our centerless grinding services support qualifying round bars, shafts, pins and cylindrical components. Thru-feed grinding is generally suited to parts with a continuous grindable outside diameter, while in-feed grinding may be appropriate for selected part geometries with shoulders or profiles. Long bars require proper support, straightness assessment and handling throughout the process.
Mozaic operates Cincinnati centerless grinding equipment, including 2OM and Twin Grip machines. Actual diameter ranges, permissible stock removal, straightness and achievable tolerances depend on the grade, condition, wheel setup and bar length. We confirm these requirements against your drawing rather than claiming that one tolerance applies to every job.
Material can be supplied by Mozaic or provided by the customer. Send the incoming diameter, finished upper and lower diameter limits, quantity, surface-finish needs and inspection requirements for review.
Steel Bar Straightening, Polishing and Finishing
Mozaic provides two-roll and press bar straightening for suitable materials and sizes. Straightness should be specified separately from diameter and roundness, using a defined support span and inspection method. Long bars may require straightening or handling controls before or after grinding.
Our stainless steel and metal bar polishing services can support specified surface-finish requirements. Include the required Ra or RMS value, surface condition and whether grinding and polishing must be performed end-to-end. Finished roughness and appearance depend on the alloy, incoming condition and process selected.
When ordering precision shaft stock, you can also review bearing shaft quality bars, pump shaft quality stainless steel bars and TG&P bar stock. These are distinct application and processing requirements, not interchangeable grades.
Saw Cutting, Chamfering and Bar Packaging
In addition to grinding and straightening, we can quote cut-to-length saw cutting, bar chamfering and protective bar packaging. Specify cut length and tolerance, edge preparation, maximum package weight and any separation required by grade or heat lot.
Combining these services can reduce the number of separate handling and shipping steps between material supply and a customer’s next machining operation. Every processing route is reviewed for compatibility with the order.
Specifications, Quality Checks and Requesting a Quote
For the fastest review, provide your material grade and condition; starting and target outside diameter; upper/lower tolerance limits; bar length; quantity; straightness; roundness; and surface-finish requirements. Include any ASTM or AMS standard, heat/lot documentation, inspection criteria, delivery schedule and packaging preferences.
