TG&P describes a bar’s processing route—not a material grade or a complete performance specification. Your order should also define the material condition, dimensional requirements, and finish needed for its intended use.
Specify the Bar for Your Application
For shafts, guide rods, pins, and other cylindrical components, the required fit determines the finished diameter and tolerance. Include the drawing limits rather than requesting “tight tolerance” alone.
Straightness, roundness, and surface roughness are separate requirements. Specify each where applicable, including the straightness inspection method and whether surface finish is expressed in Ra or RMS.
For bearing or linear-motion applications, include any hardness and surface requirements. A TG&P designation alone does not confirm suitability for a particular bearing system.
Material Grade & Supplied Condition
We review TG&P bar inquiries in carbon and alloy steel, stainless steel, and other materials according to availability and processing requirements.
State the exact grade, applicable material standard, and required condition. Include any hardness range, heat treatment requirements, or material certification needed for your order.
If the bar will undergo additional machining or heat treatment, tell us where it fits in your production sequence so finishing allowances can be reviewed.
Bar Lengths & End Preparation
Specify the required bar length and length tolerance, or provide a cut list with quantities for each size. Include machining allowance if the ends will be faced afterward.
Cut-to-length processing, straightening, polishing, and chamfering can be quoted with material supply. Packaging requirements should identify any surface protection, heat separation, or maximum package weight needed.

Turning, grinding, and polishing requirements depend on the incoming material and specified result. Tell us whether your purchase order requires the full TG&P processing route or a finished bar meeting defined acceptance criteria.
