What is TG&P?

TG&P stands for Turned, Ground & Polished, a manufacturing process used to produce precision round bar with tight tolerances and smooth surface finishes.

👉 See our full TG&P page for detailed applications and supply options.

What Does TG&P Mean?

TG&P is a three-step process:

  • Turned – Removes mill scale and brings the bar close to size
  • Ground – Achieves accurate diameter and tolerance
  • Polished – Improves surface finish

Why TG&P Is Used

  • Produces consistent bar size
  • Improves straightness
  • Reduces machining time
  • Provides better surface finish

Where TG&P Is Used

  • Shafting
  • CNC machining
  • Linear motion systems
  • Mechanical components

TG&P vs Other Finishes

Compared to cold finished bar:

  • More precise
  • Better surface finish

Compared to rough bar:

  • Ready for machining

When to Use TG&P

Use TG&P when:

  • Tight tolerances are required
  • Surface finish matters
  • Precision shafting is needed
